A small amount inside Amanda Jo Scoggin’s life!!!!

At the beach this summer!

At the beach this summer!

I am a student at Appalachian State University via the Caldwell Community College campus. I love the program because I do not have to travel up to Boone every day. The traffic is horrible! I am very excited about this semester because I know it will be very challenging and I will learn a lot. I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. I work at CVS Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician, which is very challenging. It can be very difficult to work and go to college, but I do it.  Most of the time I like my job, but there are times when I can’t wait to graduate so that I can begin doing what I love. I will give you some insight into my life and so much more……..

Beacon Heights! A great place to view Grandfather Mountain!!

You may be wondering why I said Amanda Jo Scoggin….Well the lovely Casey Davis gave me the nickname Amanda Jo at the beginning of our venture together in this wonderful cohort. I recently got married on June 20, 2009 (the best day of my life!) so the nickname does not exactly fit with my new name but I love it! I really think that it fits who I am and I am still not used to being called my new last name so I do not answer to it most of the time. HAHA

Well as I said I was married over the summer and I truly married my best friend!! We will have been together for 5 years soon so I know he is defiantly the one for me! I know that we are in this for the long haul! We are so perfect for each other!! I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with him.

We have a dog that I will talk about frequently! Her name is Zoey! She is a chocolate lab and she is the best dog ever! Zoey is a little over a year old so yZoey!ou can imagine the excitement she brings to our lives. She listens very well! She is very energetic and loves to play fetch! She also loves to rip things to shreds! Anything within her reach will be chewed in a matter of minutes, no matter what it is. She is very similar to a shredder machine.  She has a kiddy pool in our back yard that she loves. She loves water and anything to do with water. Her favorite place to go is Prices Park in the mountains. She loves to play fetch in the water.

our family

I also have two cats, Shasta and Jasper (we call him Jazz for short). They live with my parents because my husband does not like cats. I have also had them for a very long time and did not know how they would be at my new house. Shasta is getting pretty old. I got her from a family friend right after my favorite cat passed away. She is probably 10 years old. She acts like a little old grumpy lady. You pet her when she wants petting not when you want to touch her. She does things in her own way. If she does not like the food offered, she will turn her nose up and aggravate you until you give her what she wants. Jazz on the other hand is a big baby! We had to bottle feed him because a friend found him at her apartment, without a mom. So being the animal lover I am, I took him home and together, my family and I, we kept him alive. He loves to give hugs and be held and petted. He would sit on your lap all day if you let him. He has been very depressed since I moved out but he is learning to deal. Every time I go to my parent’s house he plants his self on my car and refuses to move until I give him some love. So I guess that is enough about the pets. If you can’t tell I am an animal lover!

What I like:

Wow! Obviously animals! Ha Ha! There is so much! I am an avid lover of life! I love everything about life and I am a very happy person!

I love sunrises and sunsets!

Favorite TV Shows would include:

Gilmore girls (This show reminds me of how close I am with my moma), One Tree Hill (oh the drama, glad its not my drama!), House Hunters, cartoons, Jon & Kate plus 8 (I know not a great show to watch anymore!), Army Wives, Reba (Love her!!), Still Standing (so funny), and there are more I just can’t think of them all…

Favorite Movies:

Anything John Wayne (grew up watching his movies with my dad), any of the new cartoon type movies (Shrek, Open Season, Ice Age…), National Treasure Movies, Night at the Museum, A Lot Like Love (everyone should watch this one), August Rush (It is long but totally worth it) and Fools Gold. I love any movie that is funny or romantic. I love popping a bag of popcorn and settling in with a good movie! I just watched Ghost of Girlfriends past and it is great!! Everyone should watch it!!

I love this picture of the jellyfish! It is in the Ripley’s Aquarium in Gatlinburg! I think it is so beautiful!!!! I love the colors, but it can kill you in an instant. It is so crazy that something this can kill you but is so beautiful!

I love reading! I read Christian romance books, young childrens literature and so much more. I love romance, comedy, and suspenseful books. There is nothing like the feeling you have when you are reading a new book. I get so into the book and the characters, nothing else exists. I love pretending I am the characters and picturing each scene in my head.

I love being outdoors. If you come to my house you will probably find me doing homework outside in my rocking chairs or playing with Zoey. I love hiking, fishing, and going on picnics.

The beach is my favorite place to vacation! I love the Outer Banks and as far as I am concerned that is the only beach! I know many people would disagree. I would love to live there when I retire! It is so relaxed and laid back just like me. I love just to sit with a good book on the beach. I can read and watch the waves roll in.

I love our new house! And boy should I…After we gutted it and started over! We did something to every room! We painted, took out toilets, a tub, cut holes in walls, took up flooring, put flooring down, and so on…It was a tough project to do while going to school, working and might I add PLANNING a WEDDING! WOW! Was I an overachiever or what!

What I dislike:

Spiders! OMG! I hate all spiders. I know they eat bugs but…..gross they are so ugly. Snakes also fall into this category. As my dad says, “The only good snake is a dead snake!” I totally agree. And might I add that while we were remodeling our home, A SNAKE CAME IN!! We did not even have a shovel yet! So it had to be killed with a piece of flooring that we were putting down. The story is actually hilarious because I get my hatred for snakes from my dad and he was the one who discovered the evil creature in my home! Needless to say we quickly bought a shovel and brought it to the house, for anymore creepy, slithery creatures.

I hate scary movies. I do not like bloody, gross movies. I can’t stand to watch them. Travis must watch these alone or with a friend that likes them.

I hate being late to anything. I get very annoyed when others are late! Enough said. I know that there is a reason that you might be late every now and again, but all the time seriously….

I am very afraid of heights and the dark! I know these are so childish but it is true! My entire life my bedroom window was right beside a street light so of course it shown through my window for the 22 years I live in that room. So of course when I moved to the house at the end of a long street, no street light! So what did I have to do…Get baby night lights! I know so sad! It is creepy to think what might be hiding in the dark. I don’t know why I have a fear of heights. I guess maybe I am afraid I will fall and get hurt? I am not sure.

How I act:

HMMMM… that is a good topic because I have not really thought about it before. I think that I can be serious when needed but for the most part I am very funny and goofy. I love making people laugh and I love laughing. I am loving and caring. I will go out of my way to help people, if need be. I love playing with children. I try to be sympathetic to peoples feeling and put myself in their shoes before I make any judgment about them. I can be very tender-hearted. Most movies make me cry.  I have an abundant amount of patients. I can be very stubborn and strong willed. I like for things to go my way most of the time. I am very organized, most of the time. It may not look that way to others but I can usually find anything in my home or book bag. Sometimes I feel like I must be very wise because my friends always look to me for advice on anything. I am a very determined person; if I start something I will finish it.

How I Look:

This I think is probably the hardest thing to talk about. It is hard to describe yourself to others. But here goes:

I have shoulder length auburn hair that is curly. When I was small I had stick straight hair but all of a sudden in fifth grade, super curly hair! It is almost like I stuck my finger in a light socket one day to change my hair. I have tan skin right now but this winter it will be peachy-white. I have deep brown eyes with dark black pupils. I am about 5 feet 5 inches tall. Travis is 6 feet 3 inches so I have to stand on my tippy toes to kiss him. I did not realize how much I did this until I watched our wedding video. It is so sweet.

Anything else you should know:

Without my glasses or contacts….

I AM BLIND!

I can’t even see the BIG “E” which is very, very frustrating. My eyes haven’t changed very much over the past few years, so I would love to have the laser eye surgery but man is it expensive! So until I have a real job or at least am full time at CVS, I will be wearing the glasses or contacts.
