Valerie Worth’s poems are very short and sweet. They are all about random objects and items that are I guess important to her. She catches our eye with her poems by her wording and the style of each poem. I discuss this in my post about the poems. She is very creative because she can take a simple item and write a great poem about it using very creative words and comparisons.

Saftey Pin

The subject is a saftey pin that she compares to a fish. It is closed and lies on it side waiting to be used. It is pointy and sharp. You use a saftey pin to hold things together or hold things in place. It is sliver and shiny. Some may be brass looking; small or large. She writes short one or to word lines, that really describe the safety pin. The comparisson to the fish is great becasue I have not thought of those two as comparable things. She is clever with the wording especially the last three lines, “At the sharp, Point with a, Suprised eye.” I had not thought of the point as an eye but I guess it is becasue it is what goes through cloth to hold the cloth together. She does use similies. “Its tail out, Like a thin, Shirmp..” She uses similies very well because they really help you see what she is writing about. You can see the similar features of a shrimps tail to a safet pin because they both curl around and can point out.
